Montenegro opens two more chapters in EU accession negotiation

At today’s Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, Montenegro opened two more chapters in the accession process with the EU. Negotiations were opened in chapters 9 and 21 relating to “Financial services” and “Trans-European Networks” respectively.

The conference was chaired by Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkevičs, who pointed out that Montenegro is a leader and role model for other countries in the region.

With regard to the rule of law, Montenegro’s authorities have taken concrete steps in the right direction which enabled opening the chapters today, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn underlined in at the Brussels conference.

Deputy Prime Minister Lukšić noted that this is a great success for our country and the entire society, especially having in mind that Montenegro has been negotiating for only three years.

“Opening of these two chapters is a tribute to the tremendous work, effort and commitment of all institutions and individuals engaged in these chapters. Also, it seems that we are a step closer to EU membership,” DPM Lukšić underscored.
