Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted a delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Romanian House of Representatives, led by its President Laszlo Borbely. DPM Marković informed the parliamentary delegation about Montenegro’s progress in pursuing NATO and the EU bids, and its efforts towards strengthening the rule of law, further institutional capacity building, preserving political stability and continuing economic reforms.
“Montenegro is moving forward in terms of its foreign policy, as full membership in NATO is at the top of its agenda, which will also support our European integration; as well as in terms of its interior policy, based on our key priorities, namely economic, political and overall social stability,” explained DPM Marković.
The Committee Chairman Laszlo Borbely said that Romania sees Montenegro as a country with an outstanding reputation in the context of the stability in the Western Balkans.
“Montenegro needs to keep up with this positive trend and use the ongoing reforms for establishing full balance and control over the institutions which, in his words, are being rapidly built and strengthened,” noted Mr Borbely.
The Deputy Prime Minister commented on the current political and democratic issues in the Montenegrin society and stated that the political dialogue, based on the Government’s offer, which has been officially communicated to the opposition, will provide the necessary conditions for the organisation of democratic and fair elections.
The officials evaluated current cooperation between Montenegro and Romania as high-quality. The Romanian delegation pledged to further support Montenegro in achieving values of Western democracy, stressing it is likely to be one of the first countries to ratify the protocol on Montenegro’s accession to NATO.
