Evaluations from the EC Report are an incentive for more efficient work in Chapter 17

“We see the assessments from this year’s European Commission Report as an incentive for even more efficient work in the upcoming period with the aim of fulfilling the remaining obligations in harmonizing monetary and economic policy with European goals and regulations in this area”, said Milica Kilibarda, the head of the Working Group for Chapter 17 – Economic and Monetary union.

Today, the constitutive session of the working group was held, and it was opportunity to present key strategic documents in the chapter. As well, the Rules of Procedure were adopted, and the formation of working teams and coordinators was agreed.

The members of the Working Group summarized the progress made in fulfilling the goals from the Action Plan for Chapter 17. Furthermore, they determined additional key activities as well as deadline for their realization.

Members exchanged views on the comments of the EC Report. The importance of cooperation between key institutions in charge of achieving the goals set for this chapter was underlined, as well as closer cooperation in the field of fulfilling EU requirements set for other negotiating chapters, as stated in the EC Report.

The members of the Working Group stressed the significance of monitoring the implementation of the EC recommendations given in the opinion on the Economic Reform Program for Progress in Chapter 17, as well as in the entire cluster 3 – Competition and Inclusive Development.

The Draft Roadmap for meeting the closing benchmarks in this chapter was analyzed, which was assessed as very demanding, bearing in mind that the closure of this chapter depends on the progress of reforms in the overall economy of Montenegro. On this occasion, the Working Group agreed on activities to improve this document.

The working group was established in September this year and has 25 members.
