Completing the Constitutional Court is important for speeding up the path to the EU

The common expectation of Montenegro and the EU member states is that, after the election of the judges of the Constitutional Court, the dynamics of fulfilling the remaining obligations from the negotiation process will intensify, and the accession to the EU will be accelerated, it was assessed at the meeting of the State Secretary at the Ministry of European Affairs, Milena Žižić, and the Ambassador of France, Kristijan Timonije.

Žižić emphasized the Government’s determination to implement all the initiated reforms and, in this context, pointed to the need to strengthen the Ministry of European Affairs, as a main institution in the negotiation process, as well as the necessity of improving coordination among the institutions involved in the negotiation process.

Ambassador Timonije welcomed the determination of the list of candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court and expressed the expectation that the Assembly will vote for judges at the session scheduled for the end of February, which will enable the efficient work of that institution. He pointed out that it is now imperative to ensure professionalism in the work of the Constitutional Court, which must be devoid of any political influence.

He welcomed the progress in the rule of law, particularly the outcome in the fight against organized crime and corruption, and pointed out that France will continue to support Montenegro’s European path.
