After visiting Nikšić, Žabljak, Pljevlja, Berane, and Petnjica, the European Tour reached its final stop in Bar, as part of the celebration of Europe Month. In front of the “Topolica” Sports Hall, accompanied by music, children’s laughter, and a spirit of competition, the “Games Without Borders” took place, organized by the Ministry of European Affairs and the Municipality of Bar, with support from the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro through the EU4ME project.
The event was opened by Stanislava Tanja Bardić, Manager of the Municipality of Bar, who emphasized the importance of such events for strengthening unity and promoting European values within the local community.
“In a changing world, these values should not be taken for granted but lived. The symbolism behind this year’s name, ‘European Tour – Games Without Borders’, speaks for itself. Free movement, the exchange of ideas, and encounters of diversity – that is Europe. It is a space where boundaries – physical, linguistic, and cultural – become invitations to connect, not obstacles,” Bardić stated.
On behalf of the Government of Montenegro, Jovan Šćekić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, addressed the audience, stressing that events like this serve as a strong reminder that Europe’s future begins with the youth – in classrooms, on sports fields, and through joint initiatives.
“Through this event, we joyfully and symbolically demonstrate what a borderless Europe looks like – where differences are respected, and borders fade away through play, sport, and togetherness. Montenegro is part of this European story – not only geographically, but also through its values, aspirations, and concrete steps toward full EU membership,” Šćekić said.
Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Riccardo Seri, reminded everyone that Europe Day is not just a symbol of the past, but also a guide for a future built on solidarity, support, dialogue, and unity.
“I am glad that Bar, our long-time partner in celebrating Europe Day and a municipality with outstanding EU projects, has its turn during Europe Month. Through these celebrations, we want to highlight how vital municipalities and local communities are to European integration. But we’re also going a step further – we aim for a constant presence at the local level. Specifically in Bar, through the EU Info Point at the municipality and the new European House, which we are opening soon,” said Seri.
Special attention was drawn to a speech by athlete Vladimir Mijač, whose words about team spirit and perseverance resonated with both children and adults. His message to the youth was to believe in themselves, nurture fair play, and always give their best – in sports and in everyday challenges.
“Dear children, above all, I want to encourage you to engage in sports. Beyond the chance to become champions, use the opportunity to become good people, to nurture unity and friendships,” said Mijač.
Part of the ceremony also featured a karate performance, including kata and sparring, by Karate Club “Bar.”
Following the opening ceremony, the “Games Without Borders” commenced – an educational and sports competition featuring teams from four primary schools in Bar: “Anto Đedović,” “Jugoslavija,” “Meksiko,” and “Blažo Jokov Orlandić.”
Cheered on by the audience and in the spirit of fair play, the children demonstrated teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. Ultimately, the title of best team went to the students of “Jugoslavija” Primary School.
