Municipality of Bar: New EU Project Launched

With the organization of a kick-off meeting in Volos, Greece, on June 5 and 6, the new project Recircle Med was officially launched. Its goal is to support Mediterranean coastal tourist destinations in adopting blue and circular tourism practices.

The Municipality of Bar is a partner in the project with a budget of €130,560, tasked with creating a tourism action plan in its territory following the methodology of European partners.

The lead partner in the project is the University of Thessaly, and in addition to it, the project brings together partners from Greece, Spain, Malta, Italy, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Montenegro, namely: the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce (ASCAME), the Energy and Water Agency (EWA), the Municipality of Cefalù, the National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Ohrid, the Municipality of Bar, and “Living Prospects”.

Over the next 27 months, eight partners together with 13 associated organizations will work on key activities that will support green practices and the preservation of common Mediterranean heritage.

The project is financed by the European Union through the Interreg EURO MED 2021–27 program.

Recircle Med promotes sustainable tourism in Mediterranean coastal areas by applying the principles of the blue circular economy through local engagement, cross-border cooperation, and tailored, practical actions to address key environmental challenges such as waste and water.
