Thematic Tourist Trail on Lake Skadar

The National Parks of Montenegro are richer for another tourism product – a new thematic trail in Lake Skadar National Park, made possible through the IPA project “Time Travel”. The new thematic tourist trail, “Krajina – Lasting Life and Tradition,” as stated by the Public Enterprise National Parks, is intended for recreationalists, day-trippers, cyclists, motorized travelers, geotourists, and all nature lovers.

Visitors to Lake Skadar National Park, especially the Krajina area, which is known for its exceptional cycling opportunities, will be able to enjoy the thematic route to the village of Ckla.

“The trail is 5.6 km long, leading from Ostros to the pier in Ckla, which was built during the Italian occupation in World War II. During the ride, visitors will discover the natural splendor and authentic atmosphere of this region, which leaves no one indifferent,” concludes the National Parks.

On seven illustrated interpretive boards, visitors will follow the story of the lives of people on the lakeshore—through customs and products that are part of the past, and which the locals still keep in their hearts and stories today. The trail testifies to the strength and richness of Krajina: well-kept estates, olive groves and olive oil, chestnut forests and chestnut fruits, cold water from wells, homemade cheeses, handicrafts of hardworking housewives, and the warm welcome of the people of this region. All these stories are united right on the shore of Lake Skadar, at the Ckla pier.

The new thematic trail was implemented in cooperation with the NGO CSTI Montenegro and NTOCG, with whom the Public Enterprise National Parks of Montenegro successfully cooperates on the valorization of natural and cultural values within the national parks.
