The Ministry of European Affairs traditionally marks Europe Day across Montenegro, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro and with the support of the EU4ME project, through programs that bring European values and the spirit of unity closer to citizens. This year, the celebration is organized in partnership with the municipalities of Herceg Novi, Andrijevica, Cetinje, Kotor, Tuzi, Gusinje, and Plav, where European values will be presented in a creative and authentic way through cultural and artistic programs carried out by students and their schools.
The program begins on May 11 in Herceg Novi, where students of the Secondary Mixed School “Ivan Goran Kovačić” will perform a combined drama, music, and visual arts program titled “I Can Do It Alone, But I Don’t Have To.” The following day, May 12 in Andrijevica, students of the Primary School “Bajo Jojić” will present a short play “Europe in Our Backyard.”
In Cetinje, on May 14, students of the Secondary Art School “Petar Lubarda” will perform an exhibition-performance “When Letters and Voices Come Together,” while on May 15 in Kotor, the Kotor Gymnasium will stage a play inspired by The Little Prince.
The program continues on May 18 in Tuzi, where students of the “Mehmed Fatih” Madrasa will perform a short dramatic piece “Bridges, Not Walls.”
The final event is planned for May 29 in Gusinje, where students of the Secondary Mixed School “Bećo Bašić” and the Primary School “Džafer Nikočević” from Plav and Gusinje will present a cultural and artistic program titled “From Gusinje and Plav – to Brussels: Our European Story.”
“The European idea in Montenegro is most clearly visible where there is space for creativity, dialogue, and joint work — in schools, cities, and among young people who give it new meaning. This year, the marking of Europe Day is also linked to an important jubilee — 20 years since the restoration of independence — but also to the next step ahead: to conclude the negotiation process during 2026 and be ready for European Union membership in 2028. Through initiatives like these, we show that the European path is already part of our everyday life,” the Ministry of European Affairs stated.
Europe Day is also celebrated in other municipalities. The Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, with the support of the European House, is organizing programs throughout May in Podgorica, Bijelo Polje, and Bar. The central celebration will take place on May 9 in Podgorica, featuring an EU fair in the University Park and a concert by regional music star Nina Badrić at Independence Square, while accompanying music programs will be held in Bar and Bijelo Polje.
Through the “Municipalities for the EU” project, the marking of Europe Day is further expanding to numerous other municipalities — Kolašin, Nikšić, Budva, Ulcinj, Danilovgrad, Berane, Žabljak, Plužine, Petnjica, Mojkovac, Šavnik, Tivat, Rožaje, and Zeta — where diverse programs will be implemented: cultural and artistic and educational content, fairs and exhibitions, environmental initiatives, as well as sports and family events, tailored to the needs and interests of local communities.
