Zenović with Representatives of the European Movement Denmark: The Goal of Our European Path Is European Standards and Quality of Life

“The ultimate goal of our European path is the European standards and quality of life that we want to provide for our citizens,” said Chief Negotiator Predrag Zenović in a discussion with members of the European Movement Denmark.

The European Movement Denmark is an independent, cross-party organization in Denmark that advocates for the strength of European countries through unity. It participates in domestic debates on pan-European issues, organizes public events, and provides educational resources for young people.

The organization advocates for common approaches to economic, environmental, migration, digitalization, and defense issues within the EU.

The Chief Negotiator informed his interlocutors about the results Montenegro has achieved in the negotiation process and the obligations aimed at completing negotiations and future accession to the EU, as well as cooperation in the region and issues in the field of foreign policy.

He said that the Government’s main goals are focused on achieving the rule of law, European integration, and socio-economic progress. In this context, he emphasized that Montenegro is achieving good results in all chapters through the fulfillment of obligations arising from the closing benchmarks, as well as through the implementation of the best European practices and EU standards.

“Montenegro is in the final phase of the negotiation process. Although a very intensive period is behind us, we are ultimately facing a significant volume of work, tasks that are neither easy nor simple. However, we want to send a message to decision-makers and citizens of EU member states that Montenegro will complete its part of the work and become the 28th full member of the EU in 2028,” said Zenović.

He stressed that strong support for enlargement and the positive messages Montenegro receives from the EU are very important for the country. He said that the Government is determined to make the most of the positive momentum in order to properly capitalize on the efforts being invested and the results being achieved.

“What motivates us to persevere in this ambitious, but I believe realistic, goal is the stable and high support of our citizens for Montenegro’s accession to the Union. It is precisely this support that gives legitimacy to this Government to complete this transformative process with undiminished momentum, equal dedication, and determination, and to prepare Montenegrin society for EU membership,” emphasized Zenović.

The Chief Negotiator’s interlocutors expressed interest in public opinion regarding Montenegro’s accession to the EU, the biggest identified challenges in the socio-economic environment, as well as Montenegro’s strategic approach toward candidate countries after becoming a full EU member state.
