Montenegro is making progress in the rule of law and is ready to open Chapter 27

Montenegro is making continued progress in the rule of law and it is ready to open Chapter 27 by the end of the year, members of the Montenegrin negotiation team stated at a meeting with the EU Member States – non-resident ambassadors to Montenegro.

A meeting with the ambassadors of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands and deputy heads of mission of Spain and Sweden took place in Belgrade. The Montenegrin Delegation was headed by Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević.

The delegation comprised members of the Negotiation Group for chapters 23 and 24 Marijana Laković-Drašković, Head of the Working Group for Chapter 24 Tanja Ostojić, Member of the Negotiation Group for Chapter 27 Saša Radulović and Head of the Working Group for Chapter 27 Ivana Vojinović.

The Montenegrin officials introduced the representatives of the EU Member States to the results made with a view to getting the closing benchmarks for chapters 23 and 24.

They noted that the information on the ground shows that the situation is improving, both in the field of fundamental rights and judiciary and in the fight against corruption and organized crime, where efficient work of institutions is yielding measurable results.

Referring to environment and climate change, the Montenegrin side underlined that Montenegro has been prepared to open that chapters for two years and that, in the meantime, the situation in the field of environment has been significantly improved.

The ambassadors welcomed the results and expressed full support of their countries for the successful continuation of the reform processes that will lead Montenegro to the EU.
