Prime Minister Đukanović meets with Slovak DPM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčak

Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met yesterday evening with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčak, for talks on Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic and European accession processes.

PM Đukanović presented Montenegro’s results in pursuing the EU and NATO membership, underling that the progress Montenegro has made so far is reflected in the recently published European Commission country report.

He voiced his belief that the partners in the Alliance will issue a positive decision at the following ministerial meeting in December when it comes to inviting Montenegro to join NATO. Slovakia’s continuing and friendly support remains important not only for Montenegro, but for the Western Balkans as well, PM Đukanović pointed out.

Foreign Minister Lajčak commended Montenegro’s progress within the accession processes, as well as its important role in the region, adding that Slovakia is willing to continue supporting Montenegro towards getting the NATO invitation at the upcoming Ministerial Meeting. He agreed with PM Đukanović that it would have a positive impact on the region and its secure European future.

The two officials exchanged views on the current situation in Montenegro and in the region, discussing also the issues in the context of migration crisis and recent terrorist attacks in Paris.
