EC President Barroso sends letter to Prime Minister Milo Đukanović

President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso sent a letter to Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović thanking him for his congratulations on the occasion of Europe Day.

President Barroso stated in his letter that Montenegro’s wish to be part of the European family confirms that ideals of the Schuman Declaration are still very much alive, pointing out the accession talks have been progressing following their opening in June 2012.

In that context, he underlined the pace of the accession will depend on the progress achieved in various negotiating chapters, particularly in those associated with the rule of law, which requires sustainable achieved results.

Montenegrin Government’s commitment to this end will be crucial, the President of the European Commission stressed, voicing belief the Commission will continue to support Montenegro’s EU bid.
