European Commission to recognize and value Montenegro’s results

The European Commission should recognize and value Montenegro’s results in the EU accession process, Chief EU Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević has stated. At a meeting with Irish Ambassador Patrick Kelly, he said that Montenegro is determined to continue to produce good results.

“We expect the European Commission and the member states to recognize and value the progress that has been made”, Drljević noted.

Drljević informed Kelly about the status of negotiation chapters and Montenegro’s expectations that European partners will recognize the country’s readiness to open Chapter 27 on environment.

“We are aware that the results in chapters 23 and 24 determine further progress of the country in the remaining negotiation chapters. We believe that the EC recognizes the positive results that we have been making in the accession talks and that they will be values based on individual merit”, the Chief Negotiator said.

Ambassador Kelly praised Montenegro’s reforms, while underling the transformative power of the EU accession process for the whole society.
