EU Project “Before time”: New Equipment in Tivat Health Center

The Tivat Health Center has modernized the premises of the women’s chosen doctor with the most advanced medical equipment through the EU project “Before time – Empowering women and the community for protection against cervical cancer.”

Within the project, valuable equipment has been procured: a gynecological chair with an integrated colposcope, monitor, and heaters, an ultrasound machine with 3D/4D software and a thermal printer, a portable Wi-Fi ultrasound probe, a tabletop sterilizer, as well as a pharmaceutical refrigerator that enables optimal storage of HPV and other vaccines.

The “Before time” project is co-financed under the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro program, started in September 2024 and will last until February 2027.

The main goal of the project, as explained in the Tivat Health Center, is to strengthen prevention and early detection of precancerous stages of the disease, before invasive cervical cancer develops.

“Our mission is to make healthcare more accessible, safer, and more modern. The new equipment brings top-quality care and comfort, but also a reminder that the most important thing is to attend regular check-ups. Taking care of yourself is the best prevention – and we are here to support you on that path,” emphasized the director of the Tivat Health Center, dr Danica Stevović.

The Tivat Health Center is implementing the project in partnership with the Institute of Public Health Zadar, Health Center Mostar, Institute of Public Health of Montenegro, Croatian Institute of Public Health Zagreb, and the Institute of Mediterranean Economics Perspectives Split.

“Thanks to participation in this international project, the Tivat Health Center has equipped its gynecology premises with the most modern medical equipment, which significantly improves the quality and accessibility of healthcare services. This equipment enables faster and more precise diagnostic procedures, ensures maximum patient comfort, and motivates more women to respond to preventive examinations,” they emphasize in the institution.

Activities within the project include educating and informing citizens, promoting HPV vaccination, highlighting the importance of regular gynecological examinations, as well as developing and testing protocols for a pilot project of HPV self-sampling.
