European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos on a two-day visit to Montenegro

European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, will be on an official visit to Montenegro today and tomorrow. This will be the first Western Balkan country she visits in her role as Commissioner for Enlargement.

During the visit, she will meet with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, the Speaker of Parliament, Andrija Mandić, and the Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić.

At 4:00 PM, a press conference will be held with Prime Minister Spajić and Commissioner Kos.

In connection with Marta Kos’s visit, the Speaker of Parliament has called a special session where the Commissioner is scheduled to address members of the Montenegrin Parliament.

During her visit to Podgorica, the Commissioner for Enlargement will meet with representatives of the opposition and will also attend a dinner with Prime Minister Spajić and government ministers.

The Commissioner emphasized that during her visit to Montenegro, she will visit locations where EU-funded projects have been implemented. She will visit Dobre Vode, where she will attend a presentation of a recently completed maritime security project.

She will also meet with representatives of civil society organizations, prominent women, and representatives of the Regional School for Public Administration (RESPA).

Commissioner Kos stated during a session of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee that Montenegro’s ambition to conclude membership negotiations by the end of 2026 is feasible but requires significant engagement from the entire political spectrum.

“To achieve this, they will need to continue working decisively through the remaining chapters. This can be done, but consensus among political parties will be necessary to quickly adopt the proposed reforms and legislative initiatives of the European Reform Agenda, after consultations with the European Commission,” said Commissioner Kos.
