Expert mission on judiciary visits Montenegro

An expert mission to Montenegro on judiciary, in the country since 18 March, had the closing missing in Podgorica.

The objective of the mission, which comprised independent experts from the EU (Austria, Germany, Italy), was to discuss the functioning of the PRIS information system, the state of affairs in judicial statistics, and the work and capacities of the judicial and prosecutorial councils.

Over the three days of their visit to Montenegro, the experts met with representatives from the Justice Ministry, Supreme State Prosecutor, Judicial Council, and Prosecutorial Council.

The meetings enabled for a direct exchange between Montenegrin institutions and experts on concrete matters in these areas.

At the closing session, Director-General for European Affairs at the Ministry Snežana Radović said that the expert mission served as an opportunity for Montenegro to consider together with EU colleagues the progress that has been made in the area of the judiciary, and to identify areas where further improvement is needed. She was hopeful that the expert mission’s findings will attest to Montenegro’s commitment to judiciary reform, to attaining European standards in these areas, and to the EU integration process in general.

EU Delegation to Montenegro representative Alberto Cammarata thanked the Montenegrin side for their excellent cooperation during the mission, which is just one segment of the intensive dialogue with Montenegro, Mr Cammarata concluded that expert findings will help identify the areas where progress has been made as well as those where further effort is needed.
