PM Đukanović meets in Munich with EU’s Johanness Hahn and Polish President Andrzej Duda

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, with whom he discussed the current developments in Montenegro, focusing on the accession process and its further dynamics.

Commissioner Hahn commended Montenegro’s way of managing the political situation in the country and congratulated the Government on having won the confidence vote in the Parliament.

In the context of EU accession negotiations, the two officials put particular emphasis on the importance of achieving tangible results, as the best recommendations for high- quality and continuous progress to EU structures. In this regard, the Prime Minister reiterated full commitment to the reform process, including the full implementation of the election legislation and political dialogue.

 

The Prime Minister also met today in Munich with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, who expressed satisfaction that Montenegro is to attend the NATO summit, hosted by his country, reiterating that Poland strongly welcomes Montenegro’s membership in NATO and the open door policy. President Duda in particular welcomed the progress Montenegro has made since the restoration of independcy.

Prime Minister Đukanović thanked Poland for pledging support to Montenegro and the region in the process of EU and NATO integration, adding that NATO invitation is a historic milestone for Monenegro and lasting contribution to regional stability.

Montenegrin Prime Minister and the Polish President also discussed bilateral issues and concluded that high-level political dialogue testifies to the good relations that have serious potential for further improvements in various areas, both bilaterally and in the framework of regional cooperation. In that regard, both sides expressed readiness to intensify contacts in the future.

The Prime Minister was also one of the speakers at the panel discussion “Towards Euro-Atlantic integration in South East Europe”, which discussed the prospects and challenges the Western Balkans is facing.
