Integration of Western Balkan into EU only guarantor of stability, economic development

Integration of the Western Balkan into the EU is the only guarantor of stability and economic development of the region, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and Director General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson agreed at today’s meeting in Podgorica.

“The Montenegro government has been focused on boosting quality of life as one of its priority policies, at the same time implementing the integration agenda in order to implement comprehensive reforms aimed at overcoming the decades-long backwardness,” Prime Minister Đukanović emphasised.

He stressed that the infrastructure development of the region is of vital importance for its further development and full integration.

“The Berlin initiative and support of EU member states are highly significant for achieving this objective,” Prime Minister Đukanović noted.

Director General Danielsson particularly emphasised the constructive role of Montenegro in the process, stressing that the adoption of European standards should result in economic growth and better quality of life for citizens.

He also praised Montenegro’s achievements in strengthening the rule of law, judicial reform and fight against corruption.

“The EU member states will continue to support Montenegro towards implementing and achieving concrete results in this field,” Mr Danielsson concluded.

The two officials agreed to continue intensive cooperation towards adopting guidelines for Montenegro’s further European path.
