On the occasion of Europe Day, the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, in cooperation with the Capital City Podgorica and the European House, organized an EU Fair in Podgorica. The fair was designed to bring European values and culture closer to citizens. Fourteen EU member states were represented at the fair, while the official opening was marked by speeches from Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johan Sattler, and the Mayor of Podgorica Saša Mujović.
Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević stated that Montenegro is diligently working to complete the negotiation process by the end of 2026, in order to achieve its goal—EU membership by 2028.
“This day reminds us that EU integration is not a finished job—it is a process that continues as long as we believe in its values, as long as we place democratic principles above political opportunism and common interest above short-term national calculations,” said Minister Gorčević.
EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johan Sattler expressed his belief that Montenegro will soon become a member of the European Union.
“This is a window into how we feel in Europe, not just what it represents. It is also a glimpse into the future—a future we are building together as Montenegro comes ever closer to the EU, and is very soon approaching the European Union,” stated Sattler.
Strong support for Montenegro’s European path was also expressed by the Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović.
“Our path has taken a bit longer. We must be honest and admit that some of our internal problems have contributed to that, but I have strong faith in the government of Prime Minister Spajić and Minister Gorčević that they will make up for that delay and that we will soon be part of the EU,” Mujović said.
At the booths of the EU member states, citizens had the opportunity to learn about cultural, educational, and development-partnership programs, to taste authentic products, and to collect promotional materials. The fair was open to all generations—families, young people, students, and culture enthusiasts.
The evening was rounded off with a concert by the band Perper at Independence Square, as a gift to all citizens of Montenegro for Europe Day.
The Ministry of European Affairs will continue to promote European values and contribute to achieving Montenegro’s strategic goal—full membership in the European Union—through dialogue with citizens and European partners.
