Montenegro Ready to Share Knowledge and Experience with Moldova on the European Path

Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević met today in Podgorica with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova for European Integration and Chief Negotiator, Cristina Gherasimov.

Gorčević stated that Montenegro, as the country most advanced in the EU accession process among candidate countries, is ready to make its knowledge and capacities available to Moldova, which is at the beginning stage of negotiations.

In that spirit, a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of European integration and the accession process was signed today between the Ministry of European Affairs and the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Chief Negotiator of Moldova. This Memorandum will enable an intensive exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices between the two countries.

“Montenegro is committed to sharing its experience and knowledge with countries now starting their European journey, because we believe that the future of the entire continent lies in unity based on the values of democracy, freedom, and solidarity. We see Moldova as a reliable partner and friend in this process,” Minister Gorčević emphasized.

The Memorandum envisions cooperation in all key areas of the accession process – from aligning legislation with the EU acquis, through public administration reform and the fight against corruption, to Green policies and sustainable development goals. A special focus will be placed on strengthening institutions and administrative capacities through trainings, joint events, expert exchanges, and study visits.

Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov expressed her gratitude to Montenegro for its openness and willingness to share its valuable experience in EU negotiations.

“For Moldova, which is just opening negotiation chapters and building its negotiation framework, cooperation with Montenegro is of great significance. Your knowledge and the lessons you’ve learned will be of immense help to us. I believe that together we will contribute to strengthening the European idea in the east and southeast of Europe,” Gherasimov stated.

Both sides agreed that European integration is not just a technical process but a profound transformation of society, in which mutual solidarity and partnership play a key role. By signing this Memorandum, Montenegro and Moldova are sending a clear message of their commitment to European values and a shared European future.
