The painting of murals dedicated to Montenegro’s relations with the European Union will soon begin in Podgorica, Bijelo Polje and Bar.
The Secretariat General of the Government – Public Information Sector on the EU and the EU accession process announced the competition for the creation of murals on the theme “Me for Europe, Europe for me”. The competition was implemented in accordance with the Public Information Strategy on Montenegro’s Accession to the European Union 2019-2022, within the EU4ME project, funded by the EU, and implemented by UNDP.
The best design solutions, according to the expert jury, were submitted by Mia Pejović (for the mural in Podgorica), Pavle Cvijović (for the mural in Bijelo Polje) and the Kunstler group, consisting of Danijela Darmanović Mahmutović, Angela Mršulja and Marija Raketić (for the mural in Bar) .

The three murals, to be painted by artists in Podgorica, Bar and Bijelo Polje in the coming period, are a response to the mural of artist from Bosnia and Herzegovina Rikardo Druškić, presented in Brussels in April, dedicated to Western Balkans ties and the EU. The Brussels mural served as the inspiration for the idea that Montenegro would be the first Western Balkan country to respond by painting murals in its three cities.
The Murals will present a part of Montenegro’s social, historical and cultural wealth and send a message to the citizens of the European Union that Montenegro has always been part of Europe historically, culturally and geographically. Twenty-seven entries have been submitted to the competition, ten of which were submitted for the preparation of murals in Podgorica, nine for Bar and eight for Bijelo Polje.
The best ideas were selected by the commission consisting of: Assistant Secretary General of the Government Nada Vojvodić, Professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts Maja Šofranac, Art historian and advisor for social activities in the Mayor’s Office, Nela Gligorović, Academic painter and President of the Bijelo Polje Municipality, Abaz Dizdarević, Bar City Chief Architect Igor D. Milošević and UNDP Programme Manager Jelena Mrdak.
