Taking stock of progress on five South Adriatic strategic projects

The Directorate for European Territorial Cooperation of the Ministry of European Affairs of Montenegro hosted a meeting in Podgorica with partners involved in strategic projects funded by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic programme.

The meeting brought together representatives of Montenegrin institutions working together with partners from Italy and Albania on five strategic projects. The discussion focused on assessing the current status of project implementation, spending plans and any challenges encountered.

“The Ministry of European Affairs closely monitors the implementation of strategic projects in Montenegro. Meetings like this are very important to us as the national body of the South Adriatic programme, given that Montenegrin partners have been allocated approximately €7 million within these five projects,” said Miloš Marković, Director-General of the Directorate for European Territorial Cooperation.

Through interactive discussions, the project partners shared brief updates on their progress so far and outlined plans for the upcoming phases of implementation.

The South Adriatic strategic projects are designed to contribute to achieving strategic objectives at the EU, macro-regional, national and regional levels. They focus on five key themes: Creativity, Resilience, Connectivity, Skills and Governance.

Two projects, SA CREATIVITY and SA SKILLS are led by Montenegrin institutions – the Ministry of Culture and Media and the Institute of Marine Biology respectively. Italian institutions coordinate two other projects, SA CONNECTIVITY and SA GOVERNANCE, with the Puglia Region serving as the lead partner for both. Finally, Albania’s National Agency for Civil Protection leads the SA RESILIENCE project.

With the joint cross-border efforts from partners in Italy, Albania and Montenegro, these projects aim to deliver tangible benefits to citizens across the South Adriatic region.
