The Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration, in cooperation with the Ministry of European Affairs and within the EU-funded project “Policy and Legal Advice Centre for Montenegro – PLAC,” organized a workshop on EU legal frameworks related to the placing on the market and use of veterinary medicines, within the framework of Negotiating Chapter 1 – Free Movement of Goods.

The workshop focused on the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2019/6 on veterinary medicines, an analysis of the alignment of Montenegro’s regulations with European standards, and proposals for improving the regulatory and institutional framework to ensure proper implementation of the regulation.

The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacities of officials working on the implementation of regulations and standards in the field of veterinary medicines, with an emphasis on alignment with European Union legislation.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, as well as the Institute for Medicines and Medical Devices of Montenegro (CInMED). Representatives from veterinary institutions, including Animavet, Veletex, Montvet, Veterinar Nikšić, and the healthcare institution Montefarm, were also present.

The workshop was opened by Zoran Sretić, the key legal expert of the PLAC project, and Jelena Vračar Filipović, Head of the Department for Veterinary Activities, Veterinary Medicines, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Residue Monitoring. Specific aspects and challenges in the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019/6, shortcomings in the legislative and institutional framework, and proposals for overcoming them were discussed by PLAC project expert Slavica Nikolić Stajković.
