Nikšić has been selected to participate in one of the 10 networks approved under the URBACT IV interregional cooperation program. This decision was made during a recent meeting of the program’s Monitoring Committee.
Nikšić will join the “Co-CALICO” network, which focuses on innovative solutions to housing policy challenges, particularly the shortage of housing units. Other participants in this network include municipalities from Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
Nikšić joins other Montenegrin municipalities like Berane, Bijelo Polje, and Budva, which are already part of the URBACT program through previously approved action planning networks. Bijelo Polje is involved in two networks, while Berane and Budva participate in one network each.
The innovation transfer networks address various themes related to the social and economic aspects of sustainable urban development. This call for projects was open from January to March this year, receiving 19 project proposals from cities and municipalities across Europe.
URBACT IV is an interregional cooperation program aimed at promoting integrated sustainable urban development, improving local policies, and enhancing city and municipal governance. The program includes all 27 EU member states, Norway, Switzerland, and EU candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine). The program is co-financed by the European Union.
