Montenegro committed to meeting the Millennium Development Goals

National goals and directions follow the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and Montenegro has made significant efforts and achieved visible results in their implementation, said Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević at the subregional conference on promotion and progress in the implementation of Agenda 2030.

Drljević, at the invitation of the Minister without portfolio in charge of demography and population policy, Slavica Đukić Dejanović, participates in the conference, which is held on September 13 and 14 in Belgrade.

The Chief Negotiator pointed out that Montenegro is committed to partnering with member states and other global actors in the implementation of Agenda 2030. In this regard, he pointed the need for greater efficiency at global level in achieving goals in all three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and ecological.

Drljević recalled that there is strong complementarity and synergy between the EU accession and the Agenda 2030, and that almost two thirds of the Millennium Development Goals have a strong link with negotiating chapters. He emphasized that this connection is especially visible in the areas of environmental protection and investments in education and qualified labor – Chapters 19 – Social Policy and Employment, 23 – Judiciary and Fundamental Rights and 27 – Environment and Climate Change.
