Successfully Completed Global Game Jam in Podgorica

Within the CBC GAIN project – Investing in the Future: Gaming for New Generations, implemented by the non-governmental organization ICT Cortex, a Global Game Jam was held in Podgorica, thereby including the capital in the global video game development network.

The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A IPA Program Croatia–Bosnia and Herzegovina–Montenegro 2021–2027, with financial support from the Ministry of Regional Investment Development and cooperation with non-governmental organizations.

According to ICT Cortex, the Global Game Jam is the world’s largest hackathon for video game development, simultaneously connecting creatives in more than 100 countries worldwide. During 48 hours of intensive work, programmers, designers, artists, and video game enthusiasts from across Montenegro gathered in teams, tested ideas, developed first game prototypes, and turned initial concepts into functional game projects.

During the event, 15 teams with a total of 45 participants from Podgorica, Bar, Bijelo Polje, Nikšić, Berane, and other cities developed original video games on a given theme, combining programming, design, sound, and storytelling.

“Global Game Jam 2026 showed how creative young talents can be when provided with space and support. The Global Game Jam was not a classic competition, but a platform for learning, networking, and professional development, where participants gained experience applicable in the video game development and IT industry, as well as new contacts that may evolve into future projects and collaborations,” the organizers concluded.
