Free internet access in public spaces is now available to residents and visitors of Pljevlja and Kolašin as part of the WiFi4WB initiative, funded by the European Union and the Government of Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) through the EU4Digital project. The telecommunications operator providing the network and digital services under the initiative is One, which has so far implemented open WiFi in a total of 13 municipalities across Montenegro.
With the introduction of a free public WiFi network in the centre of Pljevlja, residents and visitors have been provided with simpler and safer access to the internet in the city’s busiest public spaces. The Municipality of Pljevlja emphasises that this initiative is a concrete example of how modern digital solutions can improve the everyday lives of the local community, while also contributing to a better visitor experience and the development of the city’s tourism offer.
Following Pljevlja, Kolašin also joined the WiFi4WB initiative, with free internet available on IV Proleterske Brigade Street, known as Siberian Street, one of the busier locations in the city centre.
The introduction of open internet through the WiFi4WB initiative once again confirms the strong support of the European Union and Germany for the digital transformation of the region. This project not only improves the everyday lives of citizens, but also brings local communities closer to European standards of digital accessibility and connectivity. WiFi4WB continues to expand its network of connected local communities, with the aim of making open internet available in a total of 24 municipalities across Montenegro.
