On the occasion of the 34th birthday of the ecological state of Montenegro, an action was held in the industrial zone of the Ulcinj Saltworks Nature Park to plant the native Mediterranean species holm oak (Quercus ilex). This initiative, according to the non-governmental organization Dr. Martin Schneider-Jacoby (MSJA), is the first step in arranging and enriching the saltworks area.
“By creating the holm oak alley in the industrial zone of the Ulcinj Saltworks, a new value has been established and a foundation for future projects. In the upcoming period, the creation of a children’s corner is planned, which will make this space even more engaging and attractive for visitors of all ages,” MSJA stated.
In addition to students from SMŠ “Bratstvo-jedinstvo,” children from the Elementary School in Štodri, together with their parents, joined the planting action. Contributions were also made by members of the civil sector from Ulcinj, as well as volunteers from the MSJA Society.
This activity also marked the final action within the project Corner of Ecological Community – KEZ. The project was implemented by the Dr. Martin Schneider–Jacoby Society, under the program “Supported = Empowered,” carried out by the Active Citizenship Fund in partnership with the Foundation for Local Community Development “Slagalica” from Croatia. The program is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration of Montenegro.
“Through the Corner of Ecological Community project, different generations were connected over the past months. Young and older participants together learned about ecology, climate change, and nature conservation, shared experiences, and created new values. The KEZ project has shown that community and solidarity are a strong foundation for sustainable community development,” MSJA concluded.
