Tivat Municipality secured funding for an IPA project under the European Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg IPA South Adriatic Area Italy–Albania–Montenegro. The project, “Decarbonisation of Small Boats in the South Adriatic Sea” (DECAR BOATS), aims to reduce harmful emissions in maritime transport by transitioning small vessels to electric propulsion.
The total value of DECAR BOATS is €1,139,077.78, with Tivat receiving €178,038.00.

The project’s main goal is to decarbonize maritime transport in the South Adriatic region through sustainable solutions, including the use of electric small boats and integration of renewable energy sources. This reduces reliance on fossil fuels, improves air quality, and supports the sustainable development of coastal communities. Tivat will provide electric motorboats and charging stations.
Once procured, the electric boats will be managed by Tivat’s Municipal Utility Company, used for its official tasks. Tivat will also cooperate with the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor.

The lead partner is Participation Foundation DHITECH – HIGH-TECH, with other partners including the Kotor Faculty, Technological District (Italy), Higher Technological Institute for Mobility Ge.In.Logistic (Italy), LAG Coastal Molise (Italy), and Aleksander Moisiu University Durres (Albania).
