During a working visit to Brussels, Montenegro’s Chief Negotiator with the European Union, Predrag Zenović, met with the European Parliament Rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec.
During the meeting, Zenović briefed his counterpart on the results of the latest European Commission Report on Montenegro, which was assessed as the most positive so far. He emphasized that the document confirms the progress and continuity of reform processes and stressed that Montenegro remains fully committed to fulfilling the remaining obligations. The Government’s goal, he noted, is to close all negotiating chapters and complete accession negotiations by the end of 2026.

Rapporteur Šarec congratulated Montenegro on its achievements and expressed support for its European path. He highlighted the importance of intensifying the technical part of the negotiations in the upcoming period, while simultaneously strengthening political dialogue and communication with EU member states to ensure timely ratification of the Accession Agreement.

During the discussion, it was noted that Montenegro’s progress has particular significance for the credibility of the European Union’s enlargement policy. Zenović and Šarec exchanged views on the next steps in the negotiation process, as well as on opportunities to strengthen Montenegro’s presence and promotion within EU institutions. The interlocutors agreed that Montenegro, as the most advanced candidate country in the accession process, should maintain the pace of reforms and consistently promote its achievements with the aim of becoming the next EU member state.
