The Polim Museum in Berane successfully held a two-day archaeological workshop on 15 and 16 July 2026, designed for persons with disabilities. The workshop was organised as part of the “InclUSivE HERITAGE – Sustainable Cultural Tourism in Hinterlands” project, implemented with the financial support of the European Union through the Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, in partnership with the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje.
The workshop brought together 10 persons with disabilities, two representatives of the partner institution, the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje, and seven experts who coordinated, monitored and led the programme.
Workshop Programme
On the first day, at the Polim Museum, participants had the opportunity to learn about archaeological research methods, the Gradac archaeological site and museum work through a series of interactive activities: tactile archaeology, creating their own museum exhibition as a group, and assembling artefacts in a “small archaeological laboratory.”
On the second day, the programme continued in the field – at the Gradac archaeological site above Budimlja. Participants visited the site through an adapted guided tour, took part in the “Archaeological Detectives: Find the Trace of the Past” activity and a creative clay-modelling workshop inspired by archaeological finds. The day concluded with the presentation of certificates and an exchange of impressions.
Importance of the Workshop
This workshop is a concrete example of how cultural heritage can be made accessible and understandable to everyone, regardless of physical abilities. Adapted activity formats, tactile approaches and fieldwork enabled participants to experience the archaeology and history of their local area in an authentic way.
The Polim Museum continues to carry out activities promoting inclusiveness and accessibility of cultural heritage, reaffirming its role as an institution open to all members of the community.
