Homeland Trail: An EU Project in Petnjica

Within the framework of the cross-border project “Cultural Revival from Lake Skadar to Kosovo (TIME TRAVEL),” financed by the European Union, a thematic walking trail named “Homeland Trail” has been established in Petnjica, aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the Petnjica area for tourism purposes.

The project is implemented by the Fond za razvoj zajednice (CDF), in partnership with the Opština Kline, the Centar za inicijative iz oblasti održivog turizma (CSTI) from Podgorica, and the Nacionalna turistička organizacija Crne Gore (NTOCG).

The circular walking trail starts from the center of Petnjica, near the Municipality building, and includes Koraćki Karst, the archaeological site Torine, Radman Cave, and the primary school in Radmanci.

As the project holders point out, the thematic trail highlights the literary talent as well as the archaeological treasures of the Petnjica region. In addition to the literary legacy of the traditional “Homeland Trail” gatherings organized by the Center for Culture Petnjica, the trail is also dedicated to the writer Ćamil Sijarić, originally from Bihor.

“At some of the most important Montenegrin archaeological sites – Torine and Radman Cave – the trail’s content is focused on prehistory and the remains of human communities several thousand years old. These two themes are presented on tourist, illustrated panels. It is important to note that the content of the thematic trail is bilingual,” the project representatives state.

The Time Travel project has been ongoing since 2023 and is being implemented over a period of 30 months.
