What do you do?

I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate specialist studies at the Faculty of Biotechnology with an average grade of “A” in Podgorica in 2014. I obtained Master degree in 2018  and I am currently a doctoral student at the Faculty of Biotechnology. I was on study stays in Germany and Austria regarding the technology of dairy products production. I am currently engaged as a teaching assistant in courses in the field of Animal Product Technology, scientific research and professional work.

How does your practice of science contribute to the wider community?

The field I work in is by its very nature innovative, the subject of my doctoral dissertation is monitoring the flow of biochemical changes in the cheese ripening process, there is a possibility of developing a new research area, not only at the Faculty of Biotechnology, but in Montenegro in general. The research conclusions could serve the economic sector as recommendations in the production of cheeses with the desired characteristics and quality. This area of research is, by the way, the subject of interest of numerous researchers around the world, both on industrial cheeses and on traditional ones, especially in countries that are leaders in the production of the highest quality cheeses.

What motivated you to become a scientist?

What led me through my education was my great curiosity, and according to some character traits, I am a person who likes to be the best version of myself, I strive to be better every day. Those qualities in combination can, with a lot of luck, lead you to the position you’ve been wanting for many years, as it happened to me.

What message do you send to girls who dream of doing science?

Our dear girls, I recommend you to keep your curiosity and be persistent, even when everything seems difficult and impossible, keep faith in yourself, ask wise people for advice and strive for simplicity, and create success with small safe steps. Carry on.
