As part of the project “Our Voice, Our Solution”, implemented with the support of the European Union and the Ministry of Regional-Investment Development and Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations, a two-day workshop for young people was organized in Plav. The workshop is part of a broader project carried out by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights within the YouthHubWBT network.
During the workshop, young people from Plav discussed the challenges they face in their community, as well as possible solutions that could help improve their position and quality of life in the town.
One of the most discussed topics was youth mental health. Participants pointed out that in smaller communities there is still stigma when it comes to seeking psychological help, which is why many young people avoid openly talking about their problems or seeking professional support. As one of the possible solutions, greater availability of psychological support in schools and institutions was proposed, as well as the development of discreet forms of support, such as online counseling and digital platforms.
The lack of content for young people, especially in terms of sports and recreational activities, was also a focus of the discussion.
The issue of risky behavior among young people was also an important part of the discussion. Participants emphasized the importance of preventive action through education on healthy lifestyles, as well as through greater involvement of young people in volunteer and socially beneficial activities.
During the workshop, the issue of violence and the sense of safety in the community was also discussed. Young people pointed out the challenges that exist in smaller communities when it comes to reporting violence and the adequate response of institutions. As possible solutions, strengthening young people’s trust in institutions, raising awareness about different forms of violence, and improving protection and support mechanisms through the social and healthcare system were proposed.
The ideas developed during the workshop will be presented at the final event of the project “Our Voice, Our Solution”, where young people will have the opportunity to present them to decision-makers.
