With the support of the European Union through the EU4ME project, the Ministry of European Affairs continues the “28to28” campaign, which aims to bring closer to the public the importance and concrete benefits of closing negotiation chapters in the process of accession to the European Union. At the end of last year, Montenegro closed three negotiation chapters: 7 – Intellectual Property Law, 10 – Information Society and Media, and 20 – Entrepreneurship and Industrial Policy, and by mid-this year it will close Chapter 5 – Public Procurement.
Symbolically, the campaign continues through a call for the best journalistic stories that shed light on the above-mentioned negotiation chapters. The goal is to contribute, through professional journalism, to a better understanding of European integration and how progress on this path directly affects citizens’ everyday lives – from greater digital security and better protection of copyright, to stronger support for entrepreneurs and more efficient public procurement.
“Information is key to understanding the process, which is why the media have a special role – to help citizens recognize the importance of European integration and what it means to be a citizen of the European Union. That is why the ‘28to28’ campaign begins precisely with journalistic stories – as a starting point for better information, understanding, and dialogue about Montenegro’s European future,” the Ministry of European Affairs announced on the occasion of the launch of the campaign.
The call is open to all journalists from Montenegrin media outlets – regardless of whether they work in local or national newsrooms – and applies to television, radio, print, and online media. Eligible stories are those created in the period from 22 April to 22 May 2025 (with the deadline extended to 6 June 2025). The three best stories will be awarded for professionalism, relevance, and originality. The first prize amounts to EUR 500, the second to EUR 400, and the third to EUR 300.
