The deadline for applications to the competition for the best journalistic story within the “Openly About the EU” campaign has been extended until June 12, 2026.
The competition is organized by the Ministry of European Affairs, with financial support from the European Union through the EU4ME project, with the aim of bringing citizens closer to what European integration means in everyday life through professional and evidence-based reporting.
The “Openly About the EU” campaign addresses topics that are often accompanied by doubts and different interpretations in the public – from the issue of youth emigration and the impact of open borders, to economic changes, identity, sovereignty, and the position of small states within the European Union. Through concrete stories, experiences, and verified information, the goal of the campaign is to encourage open and informed dialogue on these issues.
Journalistic stories should address one or more topics related to the most common dilemmas regarding the European Union accession process, such as the impact of membership on living standards, price movements, the position of the economy and small producers, migration, youth perspectives, preservation of identity, as well as the role of small states in the EU and the stability of the Union in contemporary global circumstances.
“Quality and responsible journalism plays an important role in bringing European topics closer to citizens, especially when it comes to issues that provoke different opinions and dilemmas in the public. That is precisely why we want to encourage content that will open space for an evidence-based and informed discussion about Montenegro’s European future,” the Ministry of European Affairs stated.
Journalists from local and national media – television, radio, print, and online media – may apply for the competition. Stories published in the period from April 27 to June 12, 2026, will be considered.
The three best stories will be awarded: the first prize amounts to 500 euros, the second 400, and the third 300 euros.
